Ahead of the release of "Anjunabeats Volume 10", we are bringing you 10 exclusive features to give you the inside scoop on the album release. First up we have an interview with a brand new addition to the Anjunabeats label, Eximinds, whose single "Revolved" makes an appearance on Volume 10 and is the first single release from the compilation. Without further ado let's get better acquainted with our newest Anjuna family members.
How did Eximinds first come about? Where did the two of you meet?
"We "met" in an online forum in 2010. After noticing that we shared similar taste with styles and production techniques, we decided to team up and become a duo. It’s interesting because we did not actually meet in person until some time after that."
Who are your biggest influences?
"We listen to a variety of genres; progressive, some dubstep, Coldplay, some classical music, etc. Right now we really like what Maor Levi and KhoMa are both doing in the scene. They continue to come up with innovative ideas and create very distinct sounds."
Tell us about the thought process for "Revolved". How did the track come about?
"We did this track as a great experiment. We wanted to do something powerful and unusual and create a different sound from the current modern trance scene. One of the toughest parts of this job is forming your own unique sound. We had a few ideas about this particular sound we were trying to make and we put it together pretty quickly in about three days. The positive response has been overwhelming, which is something we’re really appreciative for!"
Where is the Eximinds studio HQ? Do you work together in same room or remotely from different locations?
"Russia! Alex lives in Moscow, and (I) Dmitry live a bit outside of Moscow, but we mostly do everything individually online."
Your Anjunabeats Worldwide radio shows always uncover a host of new unsigned material. How do you find so many great new tunes?
"We utilise our social media and ask our followers to email us their stuff. There are so many talented, (even) lesser known artists than us, and that radio show gives everyone a platform to get their music heard. It takes a lot of time to go through all of the stuff that’s sent over, but it’s proven to be worth it each time. Hopefully along the way, someone got their record signed! Who knows?"
What tracks are essential for your sets at the moment?
"We love to play our own tracks and remixes at our gigs, but some other ones that always seem to get the crowd going are Sied van Riel feat. Temper Heart "Carved By Your Hands" (Wezz Devall Remix), Ashley Wallbridge "Grenade" (Original Mix) and our remix of Armin’s "Serenity"."
What other productions do you have coming up?
"We have a release on Garuda coming out in February, and we’ve also got two vocal tracks, and two uplifting trance tracks in the pipeline. We think our releases this year are a lot stronger than those in the past, so we’re excited to see what happens with these records."
Where can people see you playing this year?
"We will be playing the ASOT 600 event in Minsk, a few cities in Russia, and there are also plans to go to the UK. At some point we’d love to play in North America, as well, as we get a lot of positive feedback from there."
How do you like to unwind after a hard day in the studio?
"We both enjoy watching football, going to the movies, going out for beers, but most importantly, staying warm!"
If you weren't making dance music, what would you be doing with your lives?
"Hmmm… That’s a great question. We’ve been learning how to make music for so long now, that we can’t really imagine life without music!"
